This establishment is part of a broader culinary landscape that reflects the city’s diverse heritage, particularly its Chinese roots. Hanford’s history with Chinese cuisine dates back to the late 19th century, when immigrants first arrived and began establishing businesses in the area known as China Alley.
China Alley, once a thriving hub of Chinese culture and commerce, was home to numerous restaurants and shops, including the legendary Imperial Dynasty. This iconic restaurant, which began as a simple noodle house in the 1880s, evolved over the years and became a staple of Hanford’s culinary scene. It was renowned for its traditional Chinese dishes and operated for generations until its closure in 2006[1][4][5]. The legacy of such establishments has paved the way for modern eateries like Chinese Gourmet Express to flourish.
Chinese Gourmet Express offers a straightforward yet satisfying dining experience, focusing on standard Chinese fare that appeals to a wide range of tastes. The restaurant operates from a counter service model, providing meal deals that are both convenient and affordable. This approach caters to busy locals and visitors alike, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a quick and delicious meal without compromising on quality. The restaurant’s menu likely includes popular dishes such as chow mein, egg foo yung, and other staples of Chinese cuisine, similar to those served at historical eateries like the Chinese Pagoda[2].
The restaurant’s location on Lacey Boulevard places it in a prime spot for accessibility, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a quick meal or takeout. With a phone number of +1 559-585-1670, customers can easily place orders or inquire about menu options. This ease of access, combined with the restaurant’s no-frills approach, positions Chinese Gourmet Express as a reliable and convenient dining option in Hanford.
In addition to its practical appeal, Chinese Gourmet Express contributes to the preservation of Hanford’s cultural heritage by continuing the tradition of serving Chinese cuisine. The city’s history is deeply intertwined with the stories of early Chinese immigrants who settled in the area, bringing with them their culinary traditions. Today, restaurants like Chinese Gourmet Express help keep these traditions alive, offering a taste of history alongside every meal.
Hanford’s cultural landscape is also marked by efforts to preserve its historical sites, such as the China Alley Preservation Society, which works to maintain the area’s architectural and cultural integrity[5]. This commitment to preserving the past while embracing the present is reflected in the way modern businesses like Chinese Gourmet Express blend into the city’s fabric, ensuring that Hanford remains a vibrant and culturally rich community.
In summary, Chinese Gourmet Express is not just a restaurant; it is part of a larger narrative that weaves together Hanford’s history, cultural identity, and culinary traditions. This place has good service. The staff was kind and quick. The reason for the 3 stars is that the food was sparse in main ingredients....let me explain. I ordered a #2 (2 item combo) chowmain, spicy shrimp, and beef and Broccoli. The servings were adequate but I had literally 1 shrimp in my spicy shrimp and 2 pieces of beef (with a lot of Broccoli) in my beef and Broccoli. I think dishes should be proportional and have a good amount of the protein in it. Would I come here again? No I would not.

I've been coming here for years but lately I been seen the Mexican lady handle both side of the restaurant with the same gloves she hands out food and money she handles food also with out changing her gloves she trying to get us sick by passing bacteria to our food we can't see all the germs cash register buttons and money have then she has the nerve to get upset at me for telling her can she please change her gloves.she said not and went on a rant so I just left didn't argue to my business elsewhere.the business should review the Thursday curry chicken day she doesn't change her gloves maybe she does after I leave and other customers behind me tell her so I left cause as a customer I don't need bacteria or germs in my food or bad service worker when u say please change your gloves before handling my food won't be back when she there I live here locally so I tend to stop a few times food go but service with her bad I'll keep my open for her and get a video cause people love them videos

I went the other day, and while I was eating, I found a fly in my food under the orange chicken. I asked the cashier for a refund, but they said I couldn’t get one because the manager wasn’t there. Instead, they gave me a different dish and only offered me two options, which I didn’t like or want. I had already lost my appetite. On top of that, the fly was clearly in the orange chicken, and they didn’t throw it away—they kept serving the orange chicken to other people.
